By the time I was concentrating looking out for materials to be posted, i was impressed to have a glance at a phrase read 'Vatican's Pope Benedict XVI announced his opposition to the use of condoms as a means to stop the spread of HIV.
The Pope's latest remarks on engaging the HIV/AIDS as being practiced by several European government and health professionals broke out controversy all around the world. While he was in Africa, Benedict told reporters that condoms "increase the problem" of AIDS as it leads to risky sexual behaviour.
Most of the western government and health experts labelled his comments as dangerous and irresponsible. According to them to use of condoms proved as the best tool to prevent HIV/AIDS from spreading.
Those on the opposing side also argue that condom use definitely decreases the spread of HIV and that no scientific evidence exists to suggest that their use may lead to risky behaviour and that their use saves lives.
As for Malaysia, the number HIV/AIDS positives increasing each year and still there is no vaccine to cure the disease. I still remember in 2005, when Ministry of Health planned to supply condoms and needle FOR FREE for the drug addicts with intention to lower down the number of HIV/AID positives. The move later received a strong objection by several parties and Islamic scholars.
In Islam, 'prevention is better than cure'.Islam stipulates “a system of life which is based on all good and is free from all evil”, safeguarding the individual, the family, and the society from social and moral ills. Muslims are required to not only practice virtue in their individual lives, but to enjoin others towards righteous conduct.
So what's your take on this?
