When Bollywood's Actor Gets A Datukship..

Bollywood’s leading actor Shahrukh Khan is the latest international celebrity after Jean Todt the Ferrari’s boss to receive a Datukship from the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri, in conjunction with his 70th birthday Saturday.

The Indian’s heartthrob will be receiving the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM). According to the Melaka Chief Minister’s political secretary Saadon Basirun the actor will be awarded datukship following his contribution to the entertainment industry at international level.

Shahrukh Khan was believed to be one of the foreign artist who is contributed to our tourism industry . In 2001, he shot a film entitle one 2 ka 4 resulting thousands of tourists visiting Malacca since then.I just don't know for how long that the A Famosa scene was being played in that movie. 20 minutes? ten minutes ?? Or only a minute??!! Was it enough to promote Malaysian to the rest of the world?

The decision to award the actor was made based on suggestion which was made by former finance minister Tun Daim Zainudin. Tun Daim is the person who is responsible to make an arrangement to bring the actor to Malacca and presenting the datukship in a special ceremony.

Present day, the Malacca datukship has no value at all. Its better and relevent that the datukship recognition goes to our local artists. Take Allahyarham Sudirman Hj.Arshad the ex-Malaysian Singing Ambassador as the best example. In 1989, Sudirman won the title "Best Performer" in Asia Music Award 1989 contest at Royal Albert Hall, London where Leslie Cheung (Hong Kong Megastar), Anita Sarawak (Singapore Diva), Epo (Japan), Kuh Ledesma s (Philippines) and many other chosen singers but yet to receive any recognition from the government.

There’s still plenty of individual in this country we can confer the datukship. People who had contributed to our younger generation. People who are working so hard to guard our national security and reaffirm stabililty.

And yet again how much the rakyat’s money will be spent to bring this fella to Malacca?

To Syauqi and anon..

Thanx for your comment in my blog. This is bolehland where weird things happen sometimes. Pathetic. After being slammed by the various parties upon the conferment, the Malacca government refused to make any further comment regarding the issue considering the case is close.

I think the Datukship award should be more objectively. For example it should be given to the person who not only carry the country name in the sport but also help the development of the sport in the country. I mean they should at least be a successful player and coach before they can be awarded as a Datuk. For foreign NO CHANCE!!!!!
