I was deeply saddened to read the story. And my heart was totally crestfallen for what happening in Iraq at the moment. Hope of rebuilding a new lease of life after the US invasion has turns into a nightmare for Iraqis women.
The story is quite long so i summarize it for us to share.
Story 1
When Fadia (not her real name), received two unexpected guests, her children were asleep. She was told by the guests that her husband was kidnapped by militants. And before she can save the life of her husband, she must make a visit to someone first. Without any prejudice, she followed what was being told.
Two men drove her to a place near Baghdad's Sadr City, but a few minutes from the destination, she was forced to cover her eyes and stay at sleeping position in the back seat. When the car stop, she walked into a house with her eyes uncovered and was told to wait for the ‘boss’.
Then Fadia was taken into a room where her husband being detained. She was screamed to see her husband being beaten with blood covering all over his face. The men told in order to save her husband’s liberty, she must take off her clothes and lay down on the floor. She fought hard against them for not to take off her clothes, but the militants were to strong and got no choice but to let them raping her.
To make things worse, Fadia’s husband decided to divorce her. And six years of marriage finally ended such in tragic way.
The story above is just a tragedy of hundreds of incidents occurred in Iraq after the tumbling down of Saddam’s regime. Years on, and Iraq is still a Nation at war. The continuity of Muslims women of war torn country like Afghanistan and Iraq being sexually abused showing no sign of slowing down and yet to earn sympathy from the authorities and the truth is, the drama will goes on and on.
